MESSAGE FROM BISHOP

                                                                           Bishop's Message

                                                                        May 2022

Dear Rev. Fathers, Religious and Laity,

Greetings to you all the Season of the Easter. May the Risen Christ bless you and your families.

On 1st of May, we celebrate the feast of St.Joseph, the worker. May the Almighty God, through the intercession of St.Joseph, bless all your works and business. On this same day, Rev.Deacon Gladwin, belonging to the parish of Puliakulam, will be ordained a priest. It is a happy day for the diocese of Coimbatore. We shall congratulate him on his ordination and offer our prayers to him for his successful ministry in the diocese. The diocese welcomes him to the presbyterium.

On 15th of May, our Holy Father is going to canonise Martyr Devasahayam and for this function, besides Bishops, sizeable number of priests, religious and laity from Tamil Nadu will participate in the holy function. Martyr Devasahayam, the first lay candidate to sainthood presented by the Indian Church, is indeed a great gift to the Church in India. As such, he is also a model for the laity’s involvement in the missionary work of the Church. St.John Paul II said, “The laity are not just belonging to the Church; indeed they are the church”. So the person of Martyr Devasahayam, his exemplary life as a layman and as lay missionary and his brave death have a message for the Church in India today as well as for the universal Church.

The month of May is dedicated to Our Blessed Lady. I earnestly request you to propagate the devotion of reciting rosary to your parishioners individually or as a family at home. In the words of St.Alphonse De Ligouri, “ Never will anyone who prays rosary to be led astray. Kindly see to it that our old religious habit of reciting rosaries be renewed among the faithful.

May the Risen Lord bless you all.

                                                                                                                                                               Yours fraternally in Risen Lord

                                                                                                                                                                           + L. Thomas Aquinas

                                                                                                                                                                           Bishop of Coimbatore
